SST Pure and Pure Grips Settle SST's Pure Name Complaint
JUPITER, Fla. - Strategic Shaft Technologies, LC,
the world's leader in golf shaft alignment technology, has agreed to an
out of court settlement from JMW Golf, LLC, doing business as "Pure
Grips."
Pure Grips was using the word Pure, standing
alone, to market its grips and placing the word Pure on its grips. SST
complained that Pure Grips use of the stand-alone word Pure was causing
confusion in the market and on the PGA Tour where players saw the name
Pure on clubs and mistakenly believed that the shafts had been SST
PURE® aligned. Among other related trademarks, SST is the owner of a
United States Trademark Registration of PURE®.
Under the settlement, Pure Grips agreed, among
other things, not to use Pure standing alone, and to note in all
advertising, promotional and packaging materials that "Pure Grips is
not endorsed by or affiliated with SST PURE®."
SST Managing Member and Founder Dick Weiss' only
public comment was that he was pleased that Pure Grips acknowledged
this unfortunate matter and that the two parties were able to settle
amicably.
SST PURE®, SST PUREd®, retro-PURE®, PURE®, PUREd®,
PUREing® and Every Golf Shaft Has a Sweet Spot® are registered
trademarks of Strategic Shafts Technologies, LC, Jupiter, Florida.
