PURE Grips Are Pure Joy
Tapeless application makes its easy for do it yourselfers by Alan Hunter
Wilmington, NC - August 27, 2010 - The folks at PURE
grips contacted
several few
weeks ago, asking if I would be willing to try out their
product. No problem
I said, in
fact it was about time to change out the grips on my TB's
anyway. And yes
I do re-grip
my own clubs. Have been for about 12 years now. In one way I
find it both
a challenge
and a joy re-griping my own sticks.
Some guys like to change the oil in their car, others like myself find joy
in re-gripping
their sticks. If you haven't heard about PURE grips, or are not familiar
with the concept
behind the product PURE Grips is based on tapeless instillation. In fact,
the
installation of PURE Grips requires no adhesive tape or solvents. If you
own an air
compressor you can purchase their proprietary quick-connecting tool, the
simple
power of air pressure installs their grips securely and without any
adhesive tape. Once
installed on a steel or graphite shaft, the grip provides optimal stability
while the
elasticity of the rubber combines with friction to create what the folks at
PURE call
“rubber memory,” ensuring the grip will not loosen or slip.
Although I do not own an air compressor per say, I felt confidant enough
that my
Hammersback electric-powered tire pump, together with an adapter used for
filling up
air mattresses would do he trick. The first grip install (as is the case
with any new
venture I try) was a learning experience. Right away I realized the
importance of
using PURE's quick-connect tool, and although I didn't have one I was still
committed
to forging ahead with my own setup. My wife calls me stubborn and she's
gets no
argument from me on that part of my personality. So, with box knife in hand
I began
the process of removing my old grips, one club at a time. PURE claims you
can
reduce the instillation time by half and once I go the hang of it the
process went pretty
smoothly. In no time I removed my old grips and replaced them with the PURE
Grips
and best of all, unlike traditional grips that require some setup time,
PURE Grips can
be used right away.
The Grips
PURE Grips offers five different styles and all use 100% rubber and have a
proprietary EPDM formula. This is the same type of rubber that is commonly
used in weather seals on all vehicles, as part of roof coating material, in
concrete for non-skip applications, safety equipment, solar pool panels and
now golf grips. This type of rubber does exceptionally well in a variety of
temperature conditions and is holds up well in non-perfect weather
conditions, making it the perfect choice for golf grips. And the folks at
PURE use a proprietary formula, that maximizes EPDM’s inherent advantages
when comes to providing feel, tackiness and feedback.
Pure Soft Wrap
A softer, lightly perforated wrap providing maximum shock absorption and
optimal comfort.
Pure Smooth Wrap
An imperforated, leather-like wrap with medium firmness and moderate shock
absorption.
Pure Wrap
A classic, perforated wrap offering medium firmness and moderate shock
absorption.
Pure Midsize Wrap
A midsized, classically perforated wrap offering medium firmness and
moderate shock absorption.
Pure Pro
A velvet-style, traction-grooved grip providing significant firmness and
the maximum shot feedback desired by top players.
Time To Play
To be fair to the folks at PURE and to myself, I wanted to play at least
8-10 rounds before I would write this review. After 10 rounds, mostly along
he coast here in North Carolina the one thing I noticed about these grips
is they fell soft and maintain a tacky feel to them, even in extreme humid
conditions found along the coastal Carolinas. The bottom line, I've found a
grip I like and if you're like me, enjoy re-griping your own clubs, PURE
offers a logical choice. The question when it comes to PURE Grips is which
style to go with.
