The Chicken Wing

The chicken wing is one of the most common causes of slicing. It occurs when a player starts the downswing with the top half of the body, as opposed to starting the swing from the ground up. The club cuts to the left or right across the body as the player tries to avoid about hitting a slice right or left, and as a result the left or right elbow or "chicken wing" comes up high and the arms never get released.
