Carlsbad, CA - When it comes to golf ball is softer better?
Callaway thinks so!
This week the company officially announced the new Chrome Soft Golf Ball, a product the company says will completely redefine golf ball performance and change the category.
Over the years we have seen an endless supply of new concepts and ideas as it relates to golf balls. Some have been good and others...let's just say gimmickry ideas last only so long.
As you might recall the Tour Balata was introduced back in the 1980s, At that time it was considered a the big breakthrough. It offered an exceptionally soft feel and great control. However, the soft cover was prone to splitting if hit wrong and bruising if it struck a cart path.
The R&D squad at Callaway think they are into something. And maybe they are.
According to Callaway; Chrome Soft is the only ball that has the new proprietary SoftFast Core with low compression and the Tour Urethane cover. This leads to low spin off the tee for incredible ball speed and distance, a low 65 compression to compress the ball on iron shots for incredibly soft feel, and excellent control for aggressive shots into the green. With Chrome Soft, golfers no longer have to choose between great feel and hitting the ball farther.
There are two types of golfers; those that will play only one type or brand of golf ball and the rest of us who will tee up just anything and give it a good whack. My guess, Callaway will be after aforementioned!
The new Chrome Soft will ho the retail stores in mid-January.
