South Carolina usually dominates the list of the 100
top public golf courses in the United States with 11 courses on various
list. The highest ranked course was The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island,
ranked number four by Golf Digest. Kiawah Island's Turtle Point is ranked in
the top 100. Harbor Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island was also ranked,
while the May River Golf Club at Palmetto Bluff was ranked in the top 25.
Seven of the 11 courses ranked in the state are on the
Grand Strand, home to more than 100 courses. They are The Heritage Club (No.
33), the Dunes Golf & Beach Club (No. 38), Tidewater Golf Course &
Plantation (No. 41), Caledonia Golf & Fish Club (No. 66), the Resort Club at
Grand Dunes (No. 77) and a pair of courses at Barefoot Resort & Golf Club -
the Fazio layout at No. 96 and the Dye course at No. 99.
