National Golf Course Owners Association Will Honor Darius Rucker

World-renowned musician Darius Rucker will be honored as the recipient of the 2016 NGCOA Award of Merit during the Association's Golf Business Conference in San Diego, Calif. The Award of Merit is the NGCOA's longest-running award and is designated for long-term and significant contributions to the game of golf.

The Dean of Modern Golf Course Design

Robert Trent Jones Sr. was a pioneer in so many different ways. While attending Cornell University, where he designed his own course of study to become a professional golf course designer. His professional career in the U.S. was a collaboration with golf legend Bobby Jones designing the Peachtree Golf Club in Atlanta. Jones was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1987.

Golf Trick-Shot Legend Ben Witter Dies at Age 51

Ben Witter, renowned as one of the greatest golf entertainers and trick-shot artists ever, has died, ending his decades long battle with cancer. Witter died Friday, November 6, 2015, at his home in Myerstown, Pennsylvania surrounded by his family at the age of 51. He had been in hospice care in recent months.

Federal Judge Blocks New Clean Water Rule; Scope Of Ruling For Golf Courses Unclear

A federal judge in North Dakota has blocked the Clean Water Rule authored by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers under the Clean Water Act from taking effect last Friday in 13 states. The rule attempts to clarify which "Waters of the United States" are overseen by the federal government. It is unclear at this time if the ruling reaches beyond those 13 states.

Tracy Stansberry Assumes Role Of Northern California PGA President

The Northern California Section of the PGA (NCPGA) has appointed PGA Professional Tracy Stansberry to the role of President of the NCPGA. The role was vacated by John Hughes, PGA, who was elected President in 2014. Hughes resigned after having accepted the PGA Head Professional position at Hacienda Golf Club in the Southern California Section.

Friends Are Supporting Ohio Superintendent Dean Kerns In His Battle With ALS

Superintendent Dean Kerns has made plenty of friends since starting at Arrowhead Golf Club in Minster, Ohio, in 1981, and they recently showed how much they care for their friend, who is fighting ALS. Nearly 200 people showed up on a recent Sunday at Arrowhead GC to deliver a surprise gift, a single-rider golf car that will help him in his work and to play golf. The SoloRider will allow Kerns, who received the Miami Valley Golf Association's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014, to stay on the job.

Titleist Targets Kick X Tour Z Golf Balls In Lawsuit

The Titleist lawsuit alleges that the dimple pattern on the Kick X Tour Z golf balls violates the pattern patented by Acushnet Company, part of the South Korean company Fila Korea, Ltd. The U.S.-based Kick X is due to respond in court in the coming weeks.

The Future of Golf Participation

Given my history with Tee It Forward, I have spent a significant amount of time studying participation data in the golf industry. Recently, I saw two forecasts, one from the NGF and one from Golf 20/20. The former predicts 3 million new golfers by 2020, keeping up with the population increase; the latter, an increase to 30 million players in 5 years.
